Minneapolis and the Fifth Congressional District is home to a large number of service sector employees who receive a substantial portion of the earnings in tips.

Often service sector employees are young people or single parents who have to work two jobs just to keep with their bills or pay for their education.  Unlike regular wages, a service sector employee has no guarantee of, or even a legal right to a tip.

Many of these employees will receive a tax refund at the end of the year. I support allowing these workers to keep their cash in their pocket, rather than sending it to Washington and then having to fill out forms to get it back.

This immediate tax-relief will put more money in the pockets of our service sector employees, which will help stimulate our local economy.

This idea was originally proposed in congress Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and while I don’t share his views on everything, I will support a good idea no matter where it comes from.  This is a good idea and will have my support if I’m elected!
